Baby-Related Stains

Baby Food Stains, Baby Formula Stains:

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

Remove any excess baby food or baby formula. Then use Shout® Wipes according to the label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. If the stain has set-in, let Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, or Citrus Action set overnight before washing your item.


Spit-Up Stains / Vomit Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

Remove any excess. Then use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Ultra Gel or Citrus Action. If your item is bleachable, launder with detergent and bleach.


Urine Stains

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. If your item is bleachable, launder with bleach and detergent.


Blood Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

For blood stains, blot any excess. Then use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

For blood stain removal, check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, rinse the blood stain under cold, running water or soak it in cold water for at least 15 minutes. Then pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, rubbing the product in to penetrate the stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.


Chewing Gum Stains

Chill the fabric with an ice cube to harden the gum. Then peel off any excess gum, or scrape it off with the edge of a teaspoon or credit card. If any gum residue remains, dry-clean the garment. Or for colorfast washables, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Advanced Aerosol, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.


Chocolate Stains and Cocoa Stains

If the chocolate stain or cocoa stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the chocolate stain or cocoa stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, Citrus Action, or Action Gel™. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.


Coffee Stains and Tea Stains

If the coffee stain or tea stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the coffee stain or tea stain has already dried:

For tear or coffee stain removal, check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, Citrus Action, or Action Gel™. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.

If the stain has set-in, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight before washing your item. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected.

If some stain remains after laundering, treat again with Shout® and re-launder. Or if the garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.


Crayon Stains and Candle Wax Stains

Harden the wax with an ice cube, and then scrape off the excess with the edge of a teaspoon or credit card. Place the stained portion of your garment between layers of paper towel or clean, absorbent cloths and press with a warm iron. Replace towels or cloths frequently to absorb more wax.

If the stain remains, dry-clean your item if the garment label recommends "dry-clean only." For colorfast washables, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Advanced Aerosol. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.

If some stain still remains, treat stain again with Shout® and re-launder. Or, if the garment is bleachable, re-launder with bleach and detergent in the warmest water indicated on the garment label.


Cuff and Collar Stains

If your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Ultra Gel or Action Gel™, rubbing the product in to penetrate the stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected.

If some stain remains, treat with Shout® again and re-launder. Or sponge the stain with ammonia and re-launder. If garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.


Deodorant Stains and Perspiration Stains

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, Citrus Action, or Action Gel™. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When treating set-in stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. If some stain remains, treat with Shout® again and re-launder. Or sponge the stain with ammonia and re-launder. If garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.


Dirt Stains and Mud Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

If the stain has already dried:

When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected.


Dull or Discolored Synthetics

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, apply Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action generously to the entire garment. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. This works best if the garment is washed with only a few other clothes or by itself; if the washer load is set on full; and if the detergent use is increased by 50%.

If clothes are still dull, reapply Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action to the entire garment. Let set overnight, and then re-launder. Or have clothes dry-cleaned.


Fabric Softener Stains

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When treating set-in stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing.


Felt Tip Pen Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with a mixture of detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes and rinse out. Then launder with detergent using the warmest water indicated on the garment label. Some felt tip inks are permanent.


Food Grease Stains

For grease stains from butter, animal fats, or gravies:

If the grease stain on clothing is still fresh (wet), use Shout ® Wipes according to label directions. For removing grease stains that have already dried, dry-clean if the garment label recommends "dry-clean only." If your item is a colorfast washable, spray on Shout® Advanced Aerosol or pre-treat the grease stain with Shout® Ultra Gel and Shout® Action Gel™, rubbing the product in to penetrate the stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When treating set-in grease stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected. Shout® Advanced Aerosol should not be allowed to dry before laundering.


For margarine or vegetable oils:

If the grease stain is still fresh, use Shout® Wipes according to label directions. For removing grease stains that have already dried, dry-clean if the garment label recommends "dry-clean only." If your item is a colorfast washable, spray on Shout® Advanced Aerosol or pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action, rubbing the product in to penetrate the stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.

When treating set-in stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. Shout® Advanced Aerosol should not be allowed to dry before laundering.

Fruit Juice Stains, Soda Stains, Wine Stains and Other Beverage Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, or Citrus Action. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected. If some of the grass stain remains, treat with Shout® again and re-launder. Or if the garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.


Ink Stains (Ballpoint)

If the ink stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the ink stain has already dried:

For ink-stain removal, check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, place the stain face-down on white paper towels and sponge with rubbing alcohol or acetone (nail polish remover that contains acetone can be used).

Lipstick Stains and Makeup Stains

If the lipstick or makeup stain is still fresh:

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the lipstick or makeup stain has already dried:

For lipstick stain or makeup stain removal, check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, flush the makeup stain with rubbing alcohol, rinse and launder. Or pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, Action Gel™ or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.

When treating set-in makeup stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected. If some stain remains, treat with Shout® again and re-launder. Or if the garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.


Lubricating Oil Stains

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, spray on Shout® Advanced Aerosol, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. Shout® Advanced Aerosol should not be allowed to dry before laundering.

If the stain is lightened but not removed, treat with Shout® Advanced Aerosol again and re-launder. If some stain remains and the garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent


Mildew Stains

A mildew stain may be permanent; it can also weaken fibers and leave a hole. Treat the stain by laundering with detergent in the warmest water indicated on the garment label. Add bleach if the garment label indicates the item is bleachable. If the stain remains, sponge it with a paste of lemon juice and salt. Leave on stain for 15 minutes, and then re-launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. Drying clothes in the sun may also help to bleach out a mildew stain.


Milk Stains, Cream Stains, or Ice Cream Stains

If the stain is still fresh (wet):

Remove any excess. Then use Shout® Wipes according to the label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. If stain still remains and your item is bleachable, re-launder with bleach.


Motor Oil Stains

For oil stain removal, blot any excess. If your item is a colorfast washable, spray on Shout® Advanced Aerosol (an ideal oil stain remover) or pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Citrus Action, or Ultra Gel, rubbing the product in to penetrate the oil stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When treating set-in oil stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. When using Shout® Ultra Gel, do not pre-treat bright, khaki or fluorescent colors more than a few minutes before laundering or color may be affected. Shout® Advanced Aerosol should not be allowed to dry before laundering. If some stain remains, treat with Shout® again and re-launder. Or if the garment is bleachable, you may re-launder with bleach and detergent.

Mustard Stains

If the stain is still fresh:

Remove any excess and use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Ultra Gel using the brush to rub in Shout® to penetrate the stain. Wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. If some stain remains and the garment is bleachable, re-launder with bleach and detergent. Some mustards may cause permanent staining.


Nail Polish Stains

To treat a nail polish stain, place the stain over a clean, absorbent material such as a white paper towel. Carefully sponge the stain from the backside of the garment with acetone, or use a nail polish remover containing acetone. Keep the stain moist for 15 minutes by occasionally blotting the stain with an absorbent material. Flush the stain with water, and then launder your clothing item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label.

Rust Stains

For rust stains, make a paste of salt and vinegar. Rub this paste into the stain; let stand 30 minutes, and then rinse with water. If some stain remains, repeat, rinse and launder the item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. Or buy a commercial rust remover from a hardware or grocery store and apply to the stain according to label directions. Rust stains are often caused by iron or rust in the water or pipes. To discourage rust stains, run hot and cold tap water for a few minutes to clear the pipes before starting the wash cycle. Avoid overloading or crowding clothes in the machine. Drain your hot-water heater occasionally to remove sediment. Never use bleach to eliminate rust stains; it will set the stain.


Tar Stains and Asphalt Stains

To treat tar stains and asphalt stains, first remove any excess. Place your garment face-down on a clean, absorbent material, such as a white paper towel. Sponge the backside of your garment with turpentine or paint thinner, replacing the paper towel frequently. Then rinse your garment with water.

TURPENTINE AND PAINT THINNER CAN DAMAGE SOME FABRICS. TEST ON A HIDDEN AREA FIRST. DO NOT USE ON DYNEL, ACETATE, OR SPANDEX.

CAUTION: USE SOLVENTS IN A WELL-VENTILATED ROOM AS FUMES CAN CAUSE ILLNESS. DO NOT USE SOLVENTS NEAR AN OPEN FLAME OR AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET. CLOSE CONTAINER SECURELY.

After you've applied paint thinner or turpentine:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Advanced Aerosol according to label instructions, and then launder your garment with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. If some stain remains, you may want to try dry-cleaning your item.


Tomato Sauce Stains / Ketchup Stains

If the tomato sauce stain or ketchup stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the tomato sauce stain or ketchup stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger, Ultra Gel, Citrus Action, or Shout® Advanced Aerosol. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. Soot Stains and Smoke Stains

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder with detergent and a few drops of ammonia in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. When treating set-in stains, let Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action set overnight or longer before washing. Repeat as necessary.


Vitamin and Medicine Stains (Liquid)

If the vitamin stain or medicine stain is still fresh (wet):

Use Shout® Wipes according to label instructions to prevent the stain from setting in.

If the vitamin stain or medicine stain has already dried:

Check your garment label to make sure it does not say "dry-clean only." If it doesn't, and your item is a colorfast washable, pre-treat the stain with Shout® Trigger or Citrus Action. Just rub Shout® in to penetrate the stain, wait 1-5 minutes, and then launder your item with detergent in the warmest water recommended on the garment label. Wine Stains

If the wine stain is still fresh (wet):
